Buy En Primeur
Why buy En Primeur?
There are many benefits to buying your wine En Primeur:
- You have the ability to choose your wines in large formats or half bottles.
- The wines are almost always considerably cheaper than secondary open market prices.
- It may also be the only way to secure certain wines especially those that are produced in miniscule qualtities.
To own your wine from release – with fine wine provenance is key!
How does it work?
We have been offering wine ‘En Primeur’ since the 1970 vintage so we have over 40 year proven track record. It is of paramount importance to buy En Primeur from a reputable wine merchant with a proven trading history. Do not consider buying from a ‘one man’ operation who may not be around in two years when your wine is delivered.
The price that you pay excludes UK Duty (currently £21.75 per 9 litre case or equivalent) and VAT but includes all shipping / freight costs and insurance.
Wines are shipped in bond to London City Bond, Barking where they are held free of Duty and VAT until delivery destination has been agreed. If delivery is to the Customer’s home or office address, duty, delivery and VAT will be charged at the prevailing rates. If delivery is ‘in bond’ to a storage account at another bonded warehouse delivery only will be charged at the prevailing rate (currently £15.00 plus VAT).
Once the wine is delivered to the UK, the Duty and VAT does not become payable if the wine remains ‘in bond’ (in a registered bonded warehouse).
We always recommend that you keep your wine ‘in bond’ as it is always easier to sell in the future if you so wish.
If taken out of bond VAT is payable after the addition of Duty – Current VAT stands at 20% but VAT is chargeable at the prevailing rate (subject to change by the Government at any time).
